Dr Jane Simmonds, Specialist Paediatric Physiotherapist and Hypermobility expert, based at our St John’s Wood clinic, has recently had some research published, titled “Recognising and Effectively Managing Hypermobility – Related Conditions”.
Hypermobility-related conditions often go unrecognised in the healthcare system for long periods of time. This results in the patients going from healthcare professional to healthcare professional, accruing multiple different diagnoses, or potential diagnoses. However it is with little or no awareness that these different issues/symptoms are often underpinned by the same problem.
This ‘Perspective’ article describes the newest (2017) diagnostic classification system, clinical presentation, examination, evaluation, and management of patients with Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD) and hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (hEDS). Therefore the aim is that this knowledge will ultimately lead to more effective management of these patients.
