Sports Medicine
Musculoskeletal medicine at Central Health is headed by Consultant Rheumatologist and Orthopaedic Physician, Dr. Cathy Speed BmedSci, BMBS, MRCP, Dip Sports Med, PhD, FRCP, FFSEM. Based at Addenbrooke's Hospital and at the Cambridge Lea Hospital, Dr Speed is also involved in teaching musculoskeletal and sports medicine at Cambridge University and is an Isaac Newton Teaching Fellow at Hughs Hall, Cambridge. She is involved in ongoing research in the area of musculoskeletal and sports medicine and has had numerous publications, with her most recent book Oxford Textbook of Soft Tissue Rheumatology, being awarded "Medical Textbook of the Year, 2004".
Dr Speed has considerable experience in the world of corporate and industrial musculoskeletal injury and sits on the appeals board of The Home Office and The Metropolitan Police. She has considerable experience as a medico-legal expert witness in the appraisal of musculoskeletal injury.
Dr Speed is Consultant Sports Physician to the English Institute of Sport, providing medical care to the nations leading athletes from a wide spectrum of sports, including English Badminton and English Ladies Golf. She is Medical Officer to the David Lloyd National Tennis Academy and The British Transplant Games.
As well as working with a number of sporting groups, Cathy is herself, a keen ultra distance runner and golfer.
