Central Health Physiotherapy's
5 by 5 recipe to help achieve a healthy pain free body
EXERCISE
Rob Hayward, one of Central Health Physiotherapy's Personal Trainers, advises: Try to:
- Where possible always take the stairs
- Get off the bus or tube two stops early and walk
- Always walk on the escalator
- Get out of breath at least three times a week; intense exercise for shorter periods can often be better than easier drawn out sessions
- Walk that extra little bit more quickly next time you walk to the tube or bus stop
POSTURE
Clare Jenner, highly qualified lecturer and ergonomics adviser, suggests:
- Make sure your bottom is right back in your chair and use the back rest
- Make sure the top of your screen is at eye level
- Bring your keyboard closer in and simulate yourself playing the piano
- Get up and move at least every hour and take your full lunch break away from your desk
- Put a note on your computer to remind you to move or sit up
SLEEP
Gemma Newell, lead Physiotherapist, recommends to try to:
- Eat at least two hours before going to sleep
- Remove all radiation from your room - turn off your laptop and phone or move them away from your bed
- Avoid watching TV immediately before trying to go to sleep
- Give yourself time to unwind for at least an hour before going to bed
- Get 8/9 hours sleep a night
DIET
Steve Grant, expert nutritionist, recommends:
- Include protein foods within each meal for more even energy levels
- Have a large glass of water prior to every meal
- Eat food made by nature rather than man
- Include a variety of colours in the foods you eat
- Eat more leafy green vegetables
STRESS
Nikki Clarke, experienced personal trainer, suggests:
- BALANCE - ALL work and no play does not make you a higher achiever
- During those really stressful spells make sure you take time out for yourself and do things you enjoy - whatever it is
- Get a massage once a fortnight to help unwind
- Try to address those worries rather than brush them under the carpet
- START - once the ball starts rolling things will be easier to achieve
Patient Experience
Vestibular Service
Central Health Physiotherapy (CHP) is proud to be one of the few physiotherapy companies in London to offer a specialised vestibular service. Conditions such as BPPV, vestibular neuritis/labyrinthitis, vertigo and motion sickness are commonly successfully treated with physiotherapy. Dizzy symptoms are worth being assessed by a Physiotherapist even if they have been persistent for months or years. If you know of anyone experiencing symptoms please contact Leah Mason at Chancery Lane clinic, Laura Fidler at The Hospital of St John and Elizabeth or Martin Van Heerden at Springdene Clinic.
