Flora London Marathon, be proud!
The Flora London Marathon is less than 3 months away! If you are participating, you are sure to be entrenched in training and enjoying the feeling of increased fitness. We think you're amazing!
It takes many, many miles of training to feel good and peak on the day and it's important to avoid injury and keep healthy. Now is a good time to review your programme, practice running in different clothing, monitor fitness levels, diet and check out gait and shoes.
Central Health Physiotherapy offers a number of services that could be of benefit to you. These include: a combined assessment performed by both a podiatrist and physiotherapist experienced in the management of running injuries; a weekly massage to keep you in tip top condition and overcome those niggling pangs; expert assessment of the way you run and how this may be improved and prevent long term problems, possibly with the use of insoles or orthotics.
And finally, the reports and advice provided by the latest in sports performance technology that highlights how you are training, the effects of your lifestyle and recovery. We are able to show whether your training is really doing what you think it is doing and how it may be improved.
If you are injured or ill during these months of training, ensure that you take sufficient time off to recover. Swim or cycle, if you can without causing further problems, as this maintains your fitness levels while away from running - but keep the time and heart rate as a training session.
Central Health Physiotherapy is proud to be one of the main advisors for the Macmillan Cancer Support running team and to be featured as one of The Flora London Marathon Injury Clinics. This means that all Central Health physios are qualified up to the highest level and have great experience in injury prevention, injury rehabilitation and performance assistance specific to endurance running.
For spectators, see our next edition for tips on how to stand for 4-5 hours!

Promoting good posture at work
According to the Labour Force Survey conducted by the HSE in 2006/07, over 1 million people were suffering from muskoskeletal disorders caused or made worse by their current or past work. This is by far the most common work-related cause of ill health, resulting in an estimated 10.7 million lost working days.
So whether you are employed, running your own business, or responsible for the welfare of many employees, the environment you work in is essential to optimise performance.
The Central Health Physiotherapy team has vast experience in ergonomics and the treatment of occupational ill health and injury. For example, we show employees how to improve their working and seating postures and minimise neck and back pain.
We help employers, including HR managers, Heads of practice, Barristers' Clerks…, find out how to meet Health & Safety regulations and fulfill their duty of care towards the people who work in their organisations.

Launch of New Stress and Performance Service
Stress, depression or anxiety were the second cause of work-related illness*, resulting in an estimated 13.8 million lost working days.
Not all stress is bad! But knowing if you are using stress in a beneficial way and recovering effectively are key. Our therapists use sophisticated software as a tool to help understand more about your health and how lifestyle changes, through appropriate management programmes, can give significant health benefits.
Initially developed in Finland, and currently used by leading sports organisations around the world, the technology we use can have very real benefits for people in everyday work situations too.
