London is cycling!
Since its launch on 30th July 2010 Boris' Barclays Cycle Hire Scheme has proved extremely popular.
A reported 12,000 Londoners signed up to take part in the scheme initially. By mid September that number had risen to 60,000, with an approximate 15,000 Boris Bike journeys being made daily according to the Evening Standard. That's an incredible 5,475,000 journeys made in the space of a year if the scheme continues to maintain its popularity.
It's not just Boris' Bikes that have increased in popularity, numbers of cyclists in London has increased year on year since 2000. In 2007 it was estimated that 480,000 cycle journeys were made across London every day. By 2009 TFL estimated that number had risen to 545,000... a staggering 198,925,000 cycle rides a year. That is an incredible amount of hours in the saddle.
As a keen cyclist myself I often find myself astounded at the number of people that I see on my daily cycle commute into work who have their bike set up inappropriately. Some I see with seats so low their knees are virtually clipping their elbows, while some have their seats so high you watch their pelvis see-saw over the saddle as they stretch to reach the pedals on either side.
A bike should be set up to suit the individual and the set up should maximise the rider's efficiency. If some of those descriptions ring true for you or you are having problems with musculoskeletal pain when cycling; or you are just not happy with or not sure how to set your bike up correctly then why not bring your bike along to one of our clinics at Chancery Lane or St. John and Elizabeth Hospital. We can do an express custom bike fitting that will take less than an hour and only cost you £50. You'll be amazed at how much more efficient we could make you!
