Welly-Wang at the CSP Physio London Summer Games!
Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, Battersea 2011... !!!
Last Saturday 15 May, 74 physiotherapists came together for a day of fitness and fun at the Battersea Park Millenium Arena, organised by the London Regional Network branch of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists.
As very aptly stated by one of the Organising Committee "how better to bring a bunch of physiotherapists together than include fitness, fun outdoors and COMPETITION!"
The 74 participants represented 14 different organisations in London including many of the big NHS hospitals and private practices.
The 14 teams included pre-organised teams as well as individuals who came along with nothing but pure determination and the promise of pride, glory and... an aluminium medal! Faye Peck, Laura Fidler and I represented Central Health Physiotherapy, joining the All-Stars team, which was a mish-mash of heroes from a number of the different organisations.
The atmosphere was great. Many of the teams donned matching t-shirts or fancy-dress - namely the Basildon team who looked like they were straight out of a 1980's roller-disco, ie pink tights, neon leg warmers and teeny shorts!!
The events included a great variety of fun games*, as well as the more traditional events, such as:
- Piggy-Back race; Egg 'n' Spoon race; Space Hopper race; Sack race; 3-legged race; Welly Wang; Obstacle course; Crazy golf; Tug-of-War
- 100m men's/women's; High jump men's/women's; Tennis singles/doubles; 5-a-side football
No, of course, it's not all about winning... but London All-Stars did manage to win one event... (CHEER!)... the 5-a-side footie no less!
Many thanks go to the CSP London Network event committee for organising the first of its kind, and doing it so well, with such a fabulous turnout. May we all spread the word for next year for a bigger, better-represented event.
Central Health Physio definitely promises to... watch this space!
